Our pastor recently gave a message on "Checklist Christians." I'll admit, I sunk a little bit in my seat and cringed - he was describing me. I really actually teared up because I thought he was staring at me and had written this message directly about me, and I was the only one in the room.
It was only a couple weeks ago, but I've already been making small changes in my life to help grow in my relationship with God. This relationship has been growing and growing over the last couple years, but I continue to lose my way often. I truly believe God places people and opportunities and situations in my life to help me grow in faith and live the plan he has for me. Lately, I've been better at taking notice of these things - appreciating them - thanking Him for them even when they aren't comfy and cozy. Sometimes the people he puts in my life to teach me I don't want to deal with - it's not my choice. Sometimes the situations he puts before me are tough .. really, really tough .. it's not my choice to just make them go away.
Sometimes I can't describe in words what I'm thinking, but that's what musicians are for, right?! We all have favorite songs at different times. Like when you go through a break-up or start a new relationship, you swear every song is describing what you are going through... this is no different. These songs are currently on "repeat" for me!

This song really expresses how I WANT to live and SHOULD be living, but I often fall short. It's too much work. I'm too busy. I will never make a difference. Excuse, excuses. Plain and simple - I am selfish - something I pray about daily.
These two verses that mean the most to me -
Was I love when no one else would show up?
Was I Jesus to the least of us?
Was my worship more than just a song?
Was I Jesus to the least of us?
Was my worship more than just a song?
People pass,
And even if they don't know my name -
Is there evidence that I've been changed?
When they see me, do they see You?
And even if they don't know my name -
Is there evidence that I've been changed?
When they see me, do they see You?
Another song by the same band really makes me think about how I'm always searching for the road I'm SUPPOSED to be walking down when really maybe God has already placed me on it or maybe I don't need to be walking at all. I often forget to be still.
I don't know many people who aren't always trying to discover "who they are." As a Christian, I strive to find out, deep down, who I really was created to be. The wonderful thing is that when I forget, God always reminds me. When I'm feeling like I don't belong (which seems to be a lot lately), I am someone in His eyes. His love is enough. I will never be alone.
I hope that you will pray for my continued growth in my relationship with Jesus. I hope you, too, will find peace, joy, encouragement, or maybe even answers in these songs. You are never walking this road alone and you are so very, very loved... once again, my words don't really say what I mean - but I'll leave it up to these guys...
