The Trice's on the {Bus} are Turning O-N-E!

Birthday Party Numero Dos.

Why: Because one party just wasn't enough.

Theme: Wheels on the Bus
Why: Because he ADORES that book and we've read it at least a jillion times this year

First of all, HUGE thanks to my mother-in-law and brother-in-law for all your help on party day or it would NOT have happened.

I was able to use a lot of things from Trice's cheerios party for this one so I really didn't have to buy anything. I had forks and plates and cups and napkins and streamers left over and I have quite the stash of party trays and bowls at this point (seriously, I just devoted an entire giant tub to my party supplies because I have hosted A LOT of parties recently!) And this party was was less stressful because I didn't have to make sure I was remembering everything for a 4 hour trip!

Trice's Outfit

From Etsy ... Never again. Adorable? Yes. But the hat never made it on his head.

The Favors

Purchased from Posh Creations on Etsy - Bus Shaped crayons. She was awesome and sent them to me RIGHT away because I discovered them last minute. Me? Procrastinate? Never.

The Cake

I may or may not have smashed the cake a little myself taking it out of the container. Whoops. This was a $5 cake from Hy-Vee and I made it fit the theme by removing the bees and flower picks and putting in a bus pick!
I'm still laughing. These are supposed to look like buses... but submarine blimp mobiles will do. I suppose. They cost me an arm and a leg and I was a bit disappointed because they did not resemble the picture I had sent, but I just laughed. Some of them were super cute. A couple were destroyed before the party. They sure were tasty, though.

The Decor

I didn't really have anything in mind, but it turned out cute.

I set up all the themed food on our table and the non-themed food along the counter

Recognize this banner?! I replaced the cheerios with school buses. I'm resourceful sometimes.

And you can't have a Wheels on the Bus party without a Wheels on the Bus book!

The Food

I know the white powdered donuts don't really look like tires, but Benny and I don't like the chocolate ones and if there were going to be left-overs, by golly I wanted to eat them. There weren't leftovers...

Black licorice would have been more appropriate. Refer to caption on previous picture. :)

The labels were a very last second idea so I just cut up some cardstock quick and pulled out the sharpie. I'm fancy.

10 cent Hy-Vee pop. It's cheaper than drinking water. There were supposed to be kiwi in the fruit tray to be a red, yellow, and green traffic light .. but someone I forgot to cut them up. We also served hot dogs and brats and chips! It was a grand ol' bbq.

The Guests

I know you are shocked g-pa made an appearance...

Yay. The hat.

So happy grandma was here! He wouldn't let go of that ball the whole time he ate.

Besties.

Seriously, Ryan?! ;) Thanks for the puke rags.

The Cake Smash

*Trice was such a gentleman gentlebaby at his Cheerio party. He hardly "smashed" the cake. Fast forward to this party -- some serious cake smashin' action. This kid devoured the entire cake. We really thought he might puke and for some reason I don't know why I didn't take it away at some point? Oh well. He didn't puke. He went straight to the bathtub. All is well in Trice-land.

What's for dessert, guys?
You can watch part of the cake smashing action here:

What Grandpa will look like next year at Trice's Birthday party .. I kid, I kid. But I did try to fool everyone at the party into thinking baby #2 was on the way. I think my dad nearly had a heart attack out of excitement. No Trice Juniors in the near future.

The Happy Birthday banner remained up for a few more days until I (with tears in my eyes) finally took it down. It made it into the party tub because I seriously think I can use it for next year. I mean, he'll probably want a Cyclone themed party when he's 2. The Birthday festivities are over and we have a full blown toddler on our hands. He's a ball of energy, laughter from the tip of his head to his toes, temper tantrums, and boundary testing.. and me? Well, I still LOVE every second of it. Especially all those seconds where I want to bust out laughing because the ornery thing he is doing is so darn adorable. This "real" parenting stuff is for grown-ups.

Thanks to all our friends and family who made it to the party! We had a great time!
